How does the GTO strategy look like and why are the GTO ranges constructed as they are?
How does a midstakes population REALLY play? We find out by looking at the data and develop an exploitative preflop approach against the average regular.
I'm analyzing a database of nearly 1 million played hands. Counting all hands from the analyzed player group - regulars - they add up to 3.4 million hands we're looking at.
Most hands are played on NL500 and the rest are mostly NL1k and NL200.
The hands were mostly played in 2021, which means they are 2-3 years old. But the data can comfortably be compared to most of today's NL200, NL100 and even NL500 games.
The learnings of how to adjust and exploit, however, are timeless and can be applied to any player pool.
All calculations are based on an NL500 rake structure resembling a typical online poker site such as Pokerstars, PartyPoker, ACR or sites with similar rake structures.
Stacks are 100bb deep.
However, the principles covered can be applied to any stake.
